Let me introduce myself

Hi, I’m Nat! I’m a landscape, wildlife and underwater photographer living in beautiful Vienna, Austria.

For me, photography is more than just pressing a button. It’s about pressing a button obsessively until your SD card is full whilst running around like a headless chicken.

I am passionate about all things creative. Originally I’m a professional musician with a degree in jazz guitar. After I graduated college, though, full of dreams and ambition to become a touring guitarist, my life decided to take a detour -  I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and temporarily lost my ability to play the instrument. That’s when photography came into my life and decided to stay, teaching me how to realise my creative potential in other ways.

I’m also a certified advanced diver and combining that with photography was a no brainer for me, because as far as I am concerned everything is better if you put it in the water, even a camera. I’m in love with everything the ocean has to offer and I’m passionate about showing it through my photos.

Why “tiger shark in teapot”?

Way back when I was leafy green youth studying in music college, a friend of mine Olga showed me an old Russian cartoon from 1972 called “Тигрёнок в чайнике (Little tiger in a teapot)” based on the fairy tale of the same name by the English writer Betty Yurdin. It’s about a tiger cub that found a way into the family teapot and refused to leave in spite of every member of the family threatening him until the youngest daughter talked to the tiger kindly and invited it to have tea with the family.

After showing me the cartoon my friend said to me: “You’re just like that tiger. You’re not going to move unless asked nicely”. I related to that hard - I am in fact very stubborn and not the one to cave under external pressure to vacate my dinnerware.

So I took the nickname “Tiger in teapot“ and the rest is history. When I was coming up with title for my blog that would incorporate my name, it was a low hanging fruit to name it “Tiger shark in teapot”, because come on! Even though I am yet to see a tiger shark in the wild, but fingers crossed!
